Julianna Raye has been training individuals and groups in Shinzen's Unified Mindfulness system for over 17 years, and she runs the official teacher training for it. She believes his great legacy is the ontological system he has created for meditation, so people can know and understand more clearly how to practice meditation and how it works. She's thrilled to be a part of Brightmind, helping to introduce everyone to Shinzen's work and to make the practices that have had such a profound impact on her life, available for all. In addition to her work for Brightmind, she trains enterprise clients, develops online and on site courses, privately coaches executives and presents keynotes on mindfulness. A big advocate of mindfulness research, she has also participated in mindfulness studies (through UCLA and Carnegie Mellon) as both a subject and a teacher.
For many years, Julianna paved a professional path for herself in the arts, as a singer/songwriter, achieving acclaim and touring with artists like Rufus Wainwright and Don Henley. She was drawn to mindfulness 20 years ago, to manage severe anxiety and depression as well as the dramatic emotional ups and downs of life as an artist. With over 100 weeks of immersive silent retreat training in both mindfulness and zen, Julianna has racked up 12,000 plus hours of formal practice time, rewiring her brain and creating a new normal for herself.
Over the course of that journey, mindfulness practice became the centerpoint of her life. Julianna never imagined life could be so rich and fulfilling. She feels fortunate every day to have discovered a way through her struggles and she knows that if she can do it, anyone can.
